Also, the beginning of Light Bringer meanders quite a bit as Brown attempts to position everyone for the forward push toward his true goal in the finale. If I had to make any critiques, I would say that the cast of characters has ballooned to the point that it's sometimes hard to keep track of everyone. Once he did though, whoa what a ride! I felt that the last half of the book was much stronger than the first half, but I finished the book eagerly awaiting the conclusion we'll find in book seven, Red God. It also seemed like needed a few chapters to get his pacing and voice back. This one started out a bit like Iron Gold as Brown worked to set the stage and get his characters into position. Light Bringer started out a bit disjointed. There were enemies on all sides and it wasn't clear how our hero was going to pull through. When we left Darrow and the Rising at the end of Dark Age, things were looking pretty bleak. Light Bringer is the sixth installment in the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown. I got Light Bringer as a galley! No spoilers here, so you can read the review and still have lots to look forward to when it comes out in July. Hail Reaper!įavorite quote: “Go fuck yourself, Lysander.” Kidding… kind of. Light Bringer had me crying at 1:30 am and yet I would do anything to start Red God today. Victra, Diomedes, Cassius, Sevro, Darrow “That motherfucker’s gonna burn.” I hope that’s a promise! A new favorite fight scene with Darrow - Breath of Stone. Without getting into spoiler territory, here are some of my highlights: This book is, of course, brutal, but there are also so many really sweet tender moments with focuses on redemption, brotherhood, forgiveness, and breaking the cycles of violence we are born into.Īnd it goes with out saying: Light Bringer is just bloodydamn epic. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book and been so angry at a character that I want to throw the book across the room… well, ok the last time was probably when I read Dark Age… Light Bringer is just one of those book that demands verbal (more than a few curse words) and physical reactions (lots of pacing!). Whenever I think Pierce Brown cannot break my heart more, he does. I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I hope for improvement but if Lightbringer is long and wanky like Dark Age I can at least pretend that only the original trilogy existed. Pierce better redeem himself from the gore fest and torture porn wank festival that was Dark Age, and the fact that there are now TWO more books in this series and it’s taking forever for them to get published is PROOF that the man fucked things up plot wise so badly in Dark Age that he needs extra time to redeem his nonsense. Some thoughts after I read Dark Age and hated it despite loving the first four books of the series:ġ) We better get a solid resolution to that baby Jackal bullshit Pierce pulled out of his ass in Dark Age.Ģ) Mustang better rule over all these hoes by the end of the series.ģ) Hopefully the Rim will actually be important to the plot in this book.Ĥ) Volsung Fa needs to die a painful death.ĥ) How the hell is Cassius still alive? I need answers.Ġ9/04: Just heard that this book series is being dragged out for TWO MORE BOOKS, Lightbringer and Red God. *Netgalley graciously gave me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. But also, I don't want this story to end. I can't wait four more years for Red God. And like me, you will laugh, you will cheer, you will gasp, you will stress eat, and you will probably cry. But I will say, if you loved Iron Gold and Dark Age, you will love this one. So, for that reason, I don't want to share my feelings on characters too much because it might give stuff away. Now, if you love these books, you know how twisty and turny they can be. She didn't steal the scenes in this book (that honor belongs to someone else), but she did rise in my "favorite character" standings. But Lyria's story and her budding friendship with a particular character really caught me off guard. There were also a surprising amount of grammatical errors, but that's to be expected in an "uncorrected" copy, so I won't hold that against it.ĭarrow and Lysander have strong showings, as you'd expect, no matter how you feel about Lysander (I'm talking about a particular reddit board, iykyk haha!). This book follows four characters, the newest of which (though not technically a new perspective to the series, just the newest compared to the others) is probably the weakest in the book (in my opinion). In the interest of not spoiling anything for anyone else, I must be brief. Angry that I must wait *however long* for Red God. This book is everything I wanted it to be. Well, I did say I was ready to be hurt again.
